Kutch Artisanal Embroidered Kala Cotton Fabric – Terracotta Brown

The natural texture of Kala Cotton, woven for thoughtful interiors.

Bring the character of Kutch handloom weaving into your home with this pure Kala Cotton furnishing fabric. Indigenous to Kutch, Kala Cotton is a rain-fed crop. Woven by hand, the fabric has a breathable feel, an earthy drape and a subtly rustic texture that sits beautifully alongside wood, ceramics and other natural materials. Vankar weavers use the loom to create cloth with distinctive texture and, in some designs, small motifs. Whether you choose a plain colour or a patterned weave, this is fabric with a quiet presence, well suited to slow, considered interiors.

Craft Story!

Kachchh Kala Cotton and Handloom Weaving

For nearly 500 years, Bhujodi’s Vankar weavers have transformed locally grown cotton and wool into textiles for the pastoral communities of Kachchh. Indigenous Kala Cotton grows with rainwater in the region’s dry climate and produces a strong, naturally textured yarn. On traditional pit looms, warp threads are carefully arranged while the shuttle carries the weft back and forth, building the cloth one line at a time. Using the extra-weft technique, motifs such as Chaumukh and Panchka are formed by hand, thread by thread. Today, this GI-recognised weaving tradition sustains farmers, spinners and weaving families while carrying Kachchh’s textile knowledge into contemporary homes and wardrobes.
