Craft Story!
The traditional patchwork quilt craft of Kutch is known as Dhadki, also called Dharki. Practised for generations by women from the region’s nomadic and tribal communities, these quilts are made by piecing together cotton fabrics, Ajrakh block prints and, in some versions, lustrous Mashru silk. The layers are joined using Tagai work, an age-old running-stitch technique worked by hand with thick cotton thread. The close stitching gives each quilt its strength, warmth and richly textured surface. Traditionally used as winter bedding and gifted to brides as treasured heirlooms, every Dhadki carries the colours, memories and hand skills of the women who made it.
