This product is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kutch using traditional block-printing techniques. Minor variations in prints, colors, and motifs are natural hallmarks of authentic handmade crafts, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

Craft Story!

Ajrakh is a centuries-old resist and mordant block-printing tradition practised by Khatri artisan families in Kutch. A single cloth may pass through around sixteen stages of washing, preparing, printing, dyeing and sun-drying before it is complete. Artisans align hand-carved wooden blocks with remarkable precision, building each geometric pattern one impression and one colour at a time. In its traditional form, the characteristic indigo blue, madder red, iron black and ivory palette is developed using natural materials such as indigo, madder, harda, iron, lime and plant-based gums. Water, sunlight and temperature influence every stage, giving each textile subtle variations that preserve the character of work made by hand. Recognised as the GI-registered Kutch Ajrakh Print of Gujarat, the craft carries generations of regional knowledge within every layer of colour and pattern.
